Motivational Skills

How to gain motivation?

Who does not know the situaton when you do not have any motivation at all? I think everyone of us know this time in our everyday life in work were we do not want to work, or were we have better plans to do than being at our workplace.

This is normal, but in these situations we need some intrinsic motivation, that is not just important for our work life, but also plays a major role in all other parts of our life. We are going to school, university or our occupation and there we always need motivate ourself.

If you have a high intrinsic motivation it is easier for you to be productive. So, how to be productive? Firstly, you have to figure our when you are most productive, in the morning, at noon or in the evening. Then you should make sure that you are in a good mood for studying, because that affects your productivity.

Secondly, it is very important to plan your time for every point on your to do list. But these time slots have to be as realistic as possible, because if they are not you are not balanced and get stressed easily.

Thirdly, learn how to say “no”. It is good to not always agree with everyone and everything, because you are your own person that can decide by yourdelf what is good for you and what is not. So, be careful just saying “yes” to everthing.

In addition, it is very important to take breaks. It is not possible to work throughout the whole day without any breaks with the same level of concentration.  Thus, you need to take adequate breaks after every part and also keep in mind, that you need to have a good work environment.

In contrast to that there is extrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation is everything that has to do with motivation that comes from another party like your employer. This can be bonuses, more freetime or other incentives that motivate you to work harder.
